Headwaters of the Tar-Pamlico Watershed

The United States Geologic Survey (USGS) has developed
a numeric system for identifying river systems in the United States.
The Tar-Pamlico Watershed is #030201.

The Tar-Pamlico Watershed is further divided into sub basins.
Oxford is in the Upper Tar Sub Basin — #03020101.

The Upper Tar Sub Basin includes the Tar River and many creeks,
including Fishing Creek which flows out of Oxford.

Granville County stretches into three watersheds. Oxford and the middle section of the County are in the Tar-Pamlico Watershed. Southern Granville County, along with Raleigh and part of Durham, is in the Neuse River Watershed.
Northern Granville County is in the Roanoke River Watershed.
