"The Map as Art" is an interdisciplinary art activity that focuses on art as a tool for communication. Students explore and illustrate concepts of watershed protection and stormwater pollution prevention while they learn about the geography of water around Oxford and in the Tar-Pamlico River Basin. They work together to produce large mural-sized posters mapping the Tar-Pamlico watershed. The activity is correlated to the NC 5th Grade Curriculum, but could be adapted to support science and social studies curricula in other grade levels.
